The landmark Delacorte Theater in New York’s Central Park was originally built as a “temporary structure” in 1962 by Park Commissioner Robert Moses for Joseph Papp’s Public Theater. The renovation required balancing the requirements of multiple stakeholders, from the NY Shakespeare Festival and numerous City Agencies.
The project scope included new and improved seating, ADA compliance, replacement of the cedar-siding facade, refinishing the lighting towers, new signage, and modernized concession areas. Renovating the production area included a higher stage deck, additional production areas and new passageways under the stage, new electrical power distribution, improved theatrical lighting and audio systems.
